My place is a bar in Annapolis called the Whiskey. You might think it's weird for someone under 21 who can't legally drink to be writing about a bar, but here's why. To me it's not just a bar, it's a venue. A venue where I can not only go to watch bands perform, but also one where I have been lucky enough to perform on multiple occasions. Their "Rock of All Ages" concert series has given not only my band, but other young, local bands a place to play. It would be horrible to see it go.

You could say that it's a cultural hub, huh? That's pretty cool! I never thought of bars that way.
ReplyDeleteI like how you picked a place that is still restrictive towards someone like yourself, but still so significant and memorable.
ReplyDeleteMaybe talk a little more about the history of the bar. Is it really old? How is it unique?
Although I couldn't real get a feel for what the place physically looked like, I respect this! Why? I'll tell you why. I respect this, because ... I'm looking for someone place to perform, myself. Lol it must be an exhilarating experience to get up in front of people you most likely have never seen before in your life and perform with your pals. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the meaning and personal relation you described with this place. It sounds wonderful and bars are always a good place to go to relax and gather thoughts, just try not to make it a habit! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to this blog because I used to play at clubs like this back in LA when I used to be in a band. Such a great feeling getting up in front of 2 or 200 people playing music. Would like to have seen you write a bit more about what the place looked like.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who's in a band and they regularly perform at a pizzeria/bar called Joe Squared in Baltimore (http://www.joesquared.com/). I've only been there two or three times but if you're regular at the Whiskey I can totally dig your sense of belonging.
ReplyDeleteI would have liked hearing how you think the Whiskey is special, maybe through a quick personal story. (I know this is hard with only 100 words!)
I really like the story you told and how you approached the subject matter of it, but I would like to see more information about the bar and the "Rock of All Ages" venue.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you made it personal, it help understand why you cared about the bar, even tough you are under age.
ReplyDeleteYou could talk about the historical Significant of the bar a bit more.
Good connection, only an image to further convey this bar would make this stronger.
